Race preview - Azerbaijan, by Jack Lowe #KeepFightingMichaelPosted : Monday 23rd April 2018 19:40:15 pm GMT

Shanghai Sensation

Daniel Ricciardo produced some stunning overtaking manoeuvres to take victory in China. His pass on Bottas for the lead the pick of the bunch. The other Finn of Raikkonen completed the podium positions. It was a race to forget for Vettel and Hamilton who finished 8th and 4th respectively, Hamilton benefiting from a penalty applied to Verstappen because of his rash move on Vettel. Other notable performers included the ever consistent Hulkenberg and Alonso whom finished 6th and 7th and have both had impressive starts to 2018.

Top 10 - 1. Ricciardo, 2. Bottas, 3. Raikkonen, 4. Hamilton, 5. Verstappen, 6. Hulkenberg, 7. Alonso, 8. Vettel, 9. Sainz, 10. Magnussen

The 2017 race contained the most infamous incident of the season with Vettel colliding with Hamilton under the safety, ultimately to the detriment of both drivers in the race. Vettel was given a penalty whilst Hamilton suffered with a freak incident with his headrest whilst leading the race, being forced to make a pitstop and thus conceded a likely win. Amidst the drama it was Ricciardo who emerged victorious ahead of Bottas who pipped Stroll in the Williams at the death to clinch second spot.

2018 podium forecast – 1. Bottas, 2. Vettel, 3. Hamilton

Fantasy Game

Ricciardo’s triumph sees him take top honours this round with a total of 316 points aided with his second fastest lap bonus of the season. He is emerging as the budget pick of the frontrunners as I predicted in my initial selections back at round 1. Will more of you consider picking the likeable Aussie this time round? Vettel’s price has lowered following his disappointment in China, will you be tempted at £15.94M? Hulkenberg and Alonso represent solid investments too at £8.97M and £9M respectively. My tips – Bottas (£13.91M), Hulkenberg (£8.97M), Verstappen (£9.87M)

Enjoy the race and don’t forget to make those bonus picks!

Under The Lights In Sakhir, Bahrain

Back to back victories for Sebastian Vettel makes it the perfect start to the 2018 season for the German driver, advantage Ferrari at this very early stage. He was put under immense pressure by the charging Bottas but didn’t falter as the Mercedes closed in. Hamilton did well to salvage what was looking a tricky weekend to claim the final podium position, and performed a fantastic triple overtake on his way. It was double disappointment for the Red Bulls’ who both retired early doors as well for Raikkonen after a horrific pit-stop incident ended his race early. Thankfully the news is positive for the mechanic who was badly injured, we wish him a speedy recovery.

Pierre Gasly rightly won driver of the day with an incredible 4th place finish for Toro Rosso-Honda, he looked on it all weekend long from Friday practice, a corner well and truly turned it seems. Magnussen made amends from Melbourne with a solid 5th place whilst the 2 McLarens' were in the points once more, 7th and 8th. Top 10 – 1. Vettel, 2. Bottas, 3. Hamilton, 4. Gasly, 5. Magnussen, 6. Hulkenberg, 7. Alonso, 8. Vandoorne, 9. Ericsson, 10. Ocon

It was Lewis Hamilton who claimed victory in Shanghai in 2017, ahead of Vettel and Verstappen. A repeat result in 2018 on a circuit which Hamilton always goes strong on would be just the tonic to make for an enthralling start to this season.

2018 podium forecast – 1.Hamilton, 2. Bottas, 3. Vettel

Fantasy Game

Vettel’s victory from pole ensured he earned the most points this round, 307 to be precise, and a price increase to boot – now £16.39m. Is the Ferrari man a must pick after such early season promise? Magnussen duly delivered on my tip with a good haul of 147 points, proving good value for money. Gasly was the star of the show however in that department, his 230 owners will be delighted with the 157 points return for their investment of £5/4.69m, a snip. My tips – Hamilton (£16.02m), Grosjean (£8.07m), Gasly (£5.51m).

Don’t forget to make those bonus picks! Enjoy the race!
