Race preview - Monaco, by Jack Lowe #KeepFightingMichaelPosted : Wednesday 23rd May 2018 17:52:20 pm GMT

Brilliance in Barcelona

Lewis Hamilton put in a masterful performance at the Spanish GP taking a commanding victory with a gap of over 20 seconds from his team mate Bottas. Max Verstappen came home in third for his first podium of 2018. Hamilton now holds a 17 point advantage over title rival Vettel at this stage of the season. Magnussen came home in a lonely 6th place impressively for Haas ahead of the Spanish duo of Sainz and Alonso. There was more encouragement for Sauber with Leclerc getting into the points again ahead of his home grand prix.

Top 10 - 1. Hamilton, 2. Bottas, 3. Verstappen, 4. Vettel, 5. Ricciardo, 6. Magnussen, 7. Sainz, 8. Alonso, 9. Perez, 10. Leclerc

Monaco GP

Last year Ferrari dominated around the streets of Monaco with a front row lockout in qualifying with Raikkonen taking pole and a 1-2 in the race, this time with Vettel out front to extend his championship lead. Ricciardo came home in 3rd for Red Bull. Jenson Button also stood in for Alonso at McLaren as the Spaniard opted to compete in the Indy 500. With the characteristics of the circuit not favoured by the Mercedes can their rivals bounce back after the silver arrows dominant display in Spain?

2018 podium forecast - 1. Vettel, 2. Verstappen, 3. Ricciardo

Fantasy Game

Lewis Hamilton topped the standings after his dominant performance in Spain, amassing a total of 316 points thanks to claiming pole and then the race win. Bottas had another consistent race weekend with a 196 points return but has still to claim either a pole position or race victory this season - his owners will be hoping this happens sooner rather than later. Good value can be found further down the field with Magnussen, Leclerc and Alonso all in good form - the latter living up to my tips last time out along with Hamilton and Vettel. My tips - Vettel (£15.69m), Verstappen (£9.96m), Alonso (£9.27m)

Enjoy the race and don't forget to make those bonus picks!

Agony and Ecstasy in Azerbaijan

Lewis Hamilton won his first race of 2018 around the streets of Baku. He inherited the win after his team-mate Bottas suffered the misfortune of a puncture driving over debris just a few laps from the finish. The other Finn of Raikkonen came home to take second whilst Sergio Perez finished an excellent third for Force India.

The chaos started on lap 1 with the clash between Raikkonen and Ocon, resulting in the French driver being forced to retire. Sirotkin was another first lap casualty whilst Alonso limped home to the pits after suffering a double puncture. Somehow he managed to finish the race, lending credit to the quality of driver more than anything. It was another nightmare scenario at Red Bull with their drivers crashing, resulting in their second double DNF in 4 races. Other retirements included Hulkenberg and Grosjean - in a rather bizarre incident behind the safety car. Many will be hoping for better luck this time out.

Top 10 - 1. Hamilton, 2. Raikkonen, 3. Perez, 4. Vettel, 5. Sainz, 6. Leclerc, 7. Alonso, 8. Stroll, 9. Vandoorne, 10. Hartley.

Spain

Last year it was Hamilton who claimed victory ahead of Vettel and Ricciardo. It was a close fought battle between the two title contenders and it looks similarly matched this year as well, with Ferrari perhaps having the edge. Traditionally Spain is where teams bring their first major upgrades of the season. McLaren are supposedly bringing their 'B' car which they hope will propel them nearer the top 3 teams and clear of the rest. Who will be the winners and losers from this first round of the in-season development war?

2018 podium forecast - 1. Vettel, 2. Hamilton, 3. Raikkonen

Fantasy Game

Hamilton's first win of the season saw him claim top honours with a return of 286 points for those who kept faith with the British driver. He has now closed the gap to Vettel in the overall standings to just over 100 points and with over a 200 point margin to Bottas in 3rd. Which of the big hitters will you back to deliver the goods this round? Perez's podium saw him enjoy a healthy 176 points to the delight of the 57 players who retained the Mexican. Alonso's consistent start to the season continued with 136 points. Sadly Hulkenberg failed to deliver on my tips following his retirement from the race, with just 19 points to show. With Bottas and Verstappen also retiring I hope to give better advice this time! My tips - Hamilton (£16.53m), Alonso (£9.25m), Vettel (£15.87m). Enjoy the race and don't forget to make those bonus picks!

Shanghai Sensation

Daniel Ricciardo produced some stunning overtaking manoeuvres to take victory in China. His pass on Bottas for the lead the pick of the bunch. The other Finn of Raikkonen completed the podium positions. It was a race to forget for Vettel and Hamilton who finished 8th and 4th respectively, Hamilton benefiting from a penalty applied to Verstappen because of his rash move on Vettel. Other notable performers included the ever consistent Hulkenberg and Alonso whom finished 6th and 7th and have both had impressive starts to 2018.

Top 10 - 1. Ricciardo, 2. Bottas, 3. Raikkonen, 4. Hamilton, 5. Verstappen, 6. Hulkenberg, 7. Alonso, 8. Vettel, 9. Sainz, 10. Magnussen

Azerbaijan

The 2017 race contained the most infamous incident of the season with Vettel colliding with Hamilton under the safety, ultimately to the detriment of both drivers in the race. Vettel was given a penalty whilst Hamilton suffered with a freak incident with his headrest whilst leading the race, being forced to make a pitstop and thus conceded a likely win. Amidst the drama it was Ricciardo who emerged victorious ahead of Bottas who pipped Stroll in the Williams at the death to clinch second spot.

2018 podium forecast – 1. Bottas, 2. Vettel, 3. Hamilton

Fantasy Game

Ricciardo’s triumph sees him take top honours this round with a total of 316 points aided with his second fastest lap bonus of the season. He is emerging as the budget pick of the frontrunners as I predicted in my initial selections back at round 1. Will more of you consider picking the likeable Aussie this time round? Vettel’s price has lowered following his disappointment in China, will you be tempted at £15.94M? Hulkenberg and Alonso represent solid investments too at £8.97M and £9M respectively. My tips – Bottas (£13.91M), Hulkenberg (£8.97M), Verstappen (£9.87M)

Enjoy the race and don’t forget to make those bonus picks!
